High Performance Development athletes amongst those receiving $6000 in grants from Canadian Sport Institute Pacific

For Immediate Release

VICTORIA (December 3, 2020) – Ten of Canada’s up and coming athletes have been selected as recipients of a series of grants presented by Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (CSI Pacific) to help these athletes continue to train and compete while helping to remove some of the financial burden of sport.

With grants provided in two windows throughout the year – spring & fall – this autumn’s recipients included 10 athletes from seven different sports, including one of the Olympics’ newest sports: Sport Climbing. There were seven female recipients and three male, with one of the women, Athletics Canada’s Mariah Kelly, receiving an additional Rising Star Grant, to help her efforts in getting to Tokyo 2021’s Olympics next year.

CSI Pacific currently has two types of grants for registered athletes:

With a value of $500 per grant, this grant is provided to athletes registered with CSI Pacific at the Provincial Development or Canadian Development service level. These athletes may be registered at any of CSI Pacific’s three campuses: Victoria, Vancouver & Whistler. The intent of the High Performance Development Athlete Grant is to provide provincially and nationally targeted athletes with financial assistance toward their daily training needs.

The Rising Star Grant

The Rising Star Grant is an additional $1,000 grant awarded to athletes registered with CSI Pacific at the Provincial Development or Canadian Development service level. There is a single grant awarded and that athlete must be a BC resident registered with the Canadian Sport Institute Victoria campus.  The Rising Star grant is made possible on the strength of an endowment fund created in the name of the 14,000 volunteers who helped stage the successful Commonwealth Games in 1994.
